About Cafe Nova

I want to introduce you to Cafe Nova Restaurant, a Sri Lankan restaurant that brings bold island flavors to the north side of Chicago in a way that feels welcoming, casual, and full of personality. Located at 6431 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60626, United States, Cafe Nova has become a spot I recommend whenever someone asks where to find comforting food with real depth and spice. The moment you walk in, the aromas of curry leaves, coconut, and slow-cooked spices set the tone, while the menu reflects the diversity Sri Lankan food is known for. Cafe Nova balances comfort food with thoughtful options, offering everything from hearty all-you-can-eat selections to lighter, healthy choices made with fresh ingredients. It’s also a great place for diners looking for Halal food, vegan options, or vegetarian plates that don’t feel like afterthoughts. Small plates are perfect for sharing, and if you’re short on time, quick bites make it easy to enjoy the flavors without committing to a long meal. Coffee is available for a relaxed catch-up, and organic dishes add a wholesome touch to the experience. Service options are flexible, which honestly makes life easier; you can enjoy dine-in meals, grab takeaway on the go, or use delivery, no-contact delivery, and kerbside pickup when convenience matters. On warmer days, outdoor seating adds a laid-back neighborhood feel that fits the restaurant’s vibe perfectly. What stands out most to me about Cafe Nova is how approachable it feels while still staying true to Sri Lankan roots, making it an easy choice for first-timers and regulars who just want food that tastes real, satisfying, and made with care. I often point out how the staff keeps things friendly and unpretentious, which helps the menu shine without feeling overwhelming, especially for newcomers curious about Sri Lankan cuisine. Whether you’re planning a casual dinner, a quick lunch break, or ordering in for a cozy night at home, Cafe Nova fits naturally into everyday routines.

From the moment we walked in, the vibe was welcoming and the energy was great. The menu had a fantastic variety of curries, house specials, and breads that were bold, beautifully spiced, and packed with authentic flavor. Every dish we tried was delicious and thoughtfully prepared — especially the Sri Lankan Rice and Curry and Chicken Biriyani, which were standout favorites for us. The service was friendly and attentive, and the portions were generous. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this place is a must-visit for anyone who loves rich, flavorful Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine. Highly recommend

Incredible value for the price. I think they keep it affordable because it’s near the campus. Maybe It’s ok for them to increase the price since I cannot find any $10 chicken biryani anywhere around Chicago. Their chicken biryani is very tasty, detailed and full of complex flavors. The sauce add a nice sour taste to overall dish. The chicken is well-marinated. One downside is that the store is a bit hot to stay in. I hope they keep the temperature around 71°F

Delicious food, friendly staff, and very affordable prices. The portions are generous and absolutely worth it. I tried the rice and curry plate and the biriyani both were amazing. If you’re looking for Sri Lankan food in Chicago, I highly recommend this place. If you are a Sri Lankan be sure to request it spicy when placing your order.
